I'm sure there will be varied choices here. Everyone likes a certain astaire-Rogers based on either the songs, dance numbers, the Deco sets, the supporting players, or the witty banter between Fred and Ginger. So let's see who likes which film! We can discuss as the thread moves along...

I have to say Swing Time, but Follow the Fleet is a close second, as is Top Hat.

I love most of them, but Shall We Dance is number one with me. All that Gershwin, and the ballet hoopla...ha! I love it.

The Gay Divorcée is great fun, too, and Follow the Fleet, and...

I'd have to go with TOP HAT, which has the five strongest songs all in the same film. There are many, many wondrous moments in just about all of the films. The single greatest line ever uttered in an Astaire-Rogers movie was in FLYING DOWN TO RIO, when a disgusted American gal says: "What do those girls have below the equator that we don't?" I think that SHALL WE DANCE is my second favorite film of theirs. I also have a newfound love of "They Can't Take That Away From Me" after watching --numerous times-- the featurette that tells the poignant story of how Ira Gershwin burst into tears upon seeing Fred for the first time after George Gershwin's death. The fact that Astaire's name was the last word George ever spoke makes it all the more touching.

It's The Gay Divorcee for me! For the scene at the docks - "Porter, Oh Porter"- and the dance to Night and Day which just is so dreamy.
