| Time to bring this thread back! Manhattan Melodrama (1934) 7/10 I finally watched this from the Loy-Powell DVD set and this is typical wonderful MGM entertainment. Gable gets the flashier part, but Powell matches him every step of the way. | |

| Harvey (1950) 8/10. I love Jimmy Stewart, but sometimes this movie just gets a little cloying. Other than that it's a nice little commentary on how society can treat people that are "different". | |

| Fur (2006) with Nicole Kidman. I loved the self absorbed characters, the complete lack of regard for other people in pursuit of what they wanted. Didnt LIKE any of the characters though. 6/10 | |

| This Island Earth 1955 - one of my fav old sci-fi's. The effects look dodgy by today's computer-driven standards, but they were considered something special 50 years ago.
And I absolutely love Faith Domergue's hairstyle!
8/10! | |

| The Bride Came C.O.D.. 1941. Screwball comedy with James Cagney & Bette Davis (I swear!). Davis didn't like the end result much, but I love it. It's funny and classic screwball (Cagney even calls her a screwball at one point.) Typical socialite trying to marry someone daddy doesn't like, and of course she ends up with the regular Joe instead. Best line, "Mustard!". Also in the cast: Eugene Pallette, William Frawley, Jack Carson. 8/10 | |

| Bridge To Teribithia 7/10- I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this. We rented it for my nephew but i think I liked it more. The Simpson's Movie?-I was only half paying attention so I'll have to watch it again. Wings 8/10-I love this movie. Its on of the few silent movies that really holds my attenion. | |

| All About Eve (1950) - argueably one of Bette Davis's best performances. I rank it up there with Now, Voyager (1942) 9/10 for both.
Convicted (1950) - with Glenn Ford. A bit of an improbable plot but if your a Ford fan like I am, its a nice look at young G.F. 7/10

I caught that same movie! That's the longest silent film I've ever watched. I wasn't so sure about it, but it grew on me.

| It is fabulous. I got to see it in an Art Deco theatre in Detroit, a few years ago. My boyfriend of the time (not into vintage) was also enthralled. | |

| Funny you should mention that- I started watching it by myself and then Jay sat down with me and got absorbed also. And it's the polar opposite of the movies he usually likes to watch (think Die Hard...) | |

| You Can't Take It With You (1938) Jimmy Stewart - this was easy to watch, but I'm not sure why it got two Oscars. - 7/10 | |

| Away From Her 8/10- This movies was so touching and subtly sad. I don't know why Gordan Pinsette did not recieve an Oscar Nomination. I am glad that Julie Christie did. Snow Cake 7.5/10- This movie was also sad in a subtle way. They kill of a charater in the begining but it gets sadder as the film goes on because you learn more about her through other characters. Also Alan Rickman is just hot. | |

| The Great Guy. James Cagney. Nice little flick about a non-corruptible little guy in government. There were lots of wonderful character actors in it. Out of 10, 7. | |

"The drum boogie woogie!" I find myself singing that for at least a week everytime I see that movie. I wish I had a recording of it. Bobby-7.5/10 They used alot of actual footage and speeches of Robert Kennedy's which was the best part of the film. Nick Cannon was also suprisingly good. Love Actually-8/10 This is my feel good movie. Underdog- Sadly I was really sick and kind of drifted in and out of this. It was formulaic but funny. The ending could have been better. Notes on A Scandal-8/10 Twisted and scary. I loved it.

| City Under the Sea (1965) - Vincent Price as the leader of a group of humans who've found immortality down under. Filmed in Cornwall apparently. I enjoyed it, even if it was a bit camp. And the special effects, including the Merpeople, weren't bad for 1965.
Zodiac - the San Franciso serial killer from the late 60s. The movie was good, if a bit long winded. It portrayed Paul Avery, the SF reporter who sensationalised the case, really well.

| No Country for Old Men - good movie, though very violent. The ending was strange....perhaps I missed something but did Josh Brolin actually get away with the money? 8/10 | |

| Hail The Conquering Hero-7/10 I was watching this and thinking "the femail lead looks like Ella Rains and low and behold it was Ella. Reckless-6.5/10 I loved this movie when I first saw it but after a 2nd veiwing I think it's not very good. I was alos exited that Nina Mae MiKinney was in it, but if you blink you'll miss her. If you don't blink you may still miss her. Door To Door-9/10 This movie gives me warm fuzzies. William H. Macy And Helen Mirren are spectactular. How Green Was My Valley-8/10 Romance On The High Seas-8/10 There's not much story here but I love this movie and the musucal # The Tourist Trade is one of the most enjoyable ever filmed. | |

| Paper Moon (1973). Nine out of of Ten.
Done in Depression-era black and white, great plot, fine acting, and an excellent soundtrack.
Now, "eat your Coney Island"!

| Shoot the Piano Player directed by Francois Truffaut. After reading, and being absolutely gripped by, The David Goodis book this was based on I was pretty disappointed. The story is a fairly faithful interpretation of the book; it's just all very superficial and a bit dull. The characters are two-dimensional so we don't get to empathise with them and the scenes are all far too short. I get the feeling he's trying much too hard to be all French cool and missing out all the grit and despair that's in the book.
I would still love to see the the book made into a film though. If only Jules Dassin had done it, we'd have a far better film than Truffaut managed.

| The Illusionist-normally I like anything that Edward Norton does, but this one wasn't very good. The "twist" at the end was very obvious. I saw it coming halfway through, hubby figured it out about 15 minutes in. I guess I'd give it 5/10. | |

| The Gift- I was a bit confused as it started out as a suspense thriller and ened up a southern gothic ghost story. The Neko Case Video for Furnace Room Lullaby was a great suprise. (its in the bonus materials). | |
