| It seems today our political appointees are all much to human. I want to know what happened to the dedicated public employee of yesteryears...you know, the Churchills, the TR's....real he-men. Who's your favorite? People can say what they want, but Truman get's my vote! Any politican that can say stuff like this is ok in my book: "...Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you'll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below...." Source: Washington Post | |

| I suspect you'll find the so-called real men of the political past, had the same warts and bumps as their modern counterparts. The media has a long lens and isn't mean with incentives for a kiss and tell and that, I think, is what has taken the shine off the proverbial apple. And what was acceptable behaviour in one era, isn't acceptable in another.
Its not so much that we were innocent in another life, but uninformed. Who knows, perhaps we're poorer for having had the veil lifted from our eyes.
Having said all that, men like Lincoln and Churchill, who wrote their own speeches, something politicos don't do any more, could turn a phrase as well as any playright.

| I'm not sure what you mean by 'he-men' or even if that's a good thing but if it's people in the political arena with the courage to make a stand, make a difference or die trying I'll go for James Connolly. | |

| Hi all,
Some good folks mentioned. Yeah, basically politicians that are willing to make a stand, regardless of the cost....it seems there are just so many political hacks anymore.....sheesh, politics!
So, any links on this Connolly fellow?

| I'd say: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan. | |
