In "The Letter," Bette Davis is knitting a lot.

last year, I was given a knitting bag from the 30s that is identical to the one she uses in that film. My Aunt in Florida takes care of an elderly Countess. She is an American who married a French Count. She gave my Aunt an Original invitation to Grace Kelly's wedding to Prince Ranier. god, can you imagine???

*GASP* Grace Kelly! My favorite -- I aspire to have as much style as she!

As for movie stars knitting, it doesn't really count, but Cary Grant attempts to learn in "Mr. Lucky":

i just love the scene in "Waterloo Bridge" (1931-- with Mae Clark) where she tries to knit him a sock at an attempt to "be at that stage" with him (i guess the modern equivalent to knitting him a sweater), all the while smoking a cigarette (hands free!), and quickly gives up to realize that she's not that kind of girl because she is "that kind of girl".

Okay, Classic Hollywood movie star knitters in fiction:

How could we forget the sweater Audrey Hepburn attepts to make in Breakfast at Tiffany's?

And the scene in Mr. Lucky where Cary Grant attempts to learn how to knit for War Relief, in an attempt to get the girl (Larraine Day).

Also, I don't know where it's from, but ages ago, someone left me a comment photo on my myspace page of Gary Cooper knitting. (?!)
