Is there a good way to make fine breadcrumbs when you haven't got a food processor to put them through? I can't seem to get the bread down to better than coarse.

For dry breadcrumbs, just be sure it's very dry (putting into an oven with a pilot light will do the trick); then you can break it up, use a mortar & pestle to crumb it to fine, and even sift it to get evenly sized crumbs.
If you're making fresh bread crumbs, I think you're out of luck, though.

You can also use your blender, if you have one. If not, try a potato masher.

an old fashioned cheese grater will work in a pinch.
