Post some suggestions for the User Rankings! Right now, it's all very boring, so let's make it a bit more fun. I was creatively stalled yesterday after setting up everything, and that part suffered a little! Also, let's think about how many posts for each...and do we want to keep the PM function deactivated until a certain # of posts have been reached, etc...same with the Family Album and Meet Up section? Just for Internet Safety's sake...??? Let me know your thoughts!

| Withhold the pm function as you say, til posters reach 25 posts? Let me get back to you on status. Do you really want status? Would members prefer to make their own titles? _________________ Why yes, I AM that kind of girl!

I'll think on some status titles as well...although a part of me wonders if we need them at all? I've found on other forums that sometimes rankings have a rather bad effect -- some people -- without knowing it, I'd hope -- tend to pull an attitude of superiority over newbies because they have a billion posts, and/or they get competitive about how many post they've made. Incidently, I really like the wee pink aprons to mark threads.

I agree to some extent, I just think the basic ones are dull!

As for status names, what about doing something indicative of decades -- say, 1900s-1950s? 1900-1910: ? 1911-1920: ? 1921-1930: Jazz Babies 1931-1940: Bright Young Things 1941-1950: Swing Timers 1951-1960: Atomic Agers I don't know about how to divvy up posts, though -- Kittenwithawhip's scale sounds good...

| I had the same thoughts as Bygone Knits, but I wonder if they might look like our areas of interest rather than User Rankings. Perhaps the same idea but from one era? ie; "Babe in Arms", "Bobby Soxer", "Hep Cat".... It would be fun if we were able to make up our own rankings after say 500 posts. Oh and | Mimi wrote: | | ...and do we want to keep the PM function deactivated until a certain # of posts have been reached, etc...same with the Family Album and Meet Up section? | All good ideas...I like having something to denote Who We Are, rather than how often we post... |

I've got a Total Creative Block period. Hence my frequent pleas for input! Also, I have to spend a little more time with the Admin features here, too...I must admit to not having fully investigated the capabilities!

Bein' a guy and getting easily confused and dazed, my vote is to keep the spam down somehow....mebbe only allow certain functions until x number of posts...hey wait a minute...that means I'm blocked! Just joking, but I think that is what one of the things that drove me nuts about PH, the spam and not having the messaging up and running.....

I have to manually activate every new member, so that should help with the SpamBots...we'll see. As it is, only Members can post, and only Members can see the photos, etc. I'm trying to see what else I can control the use of, so we can keep our little club safe and Troll-Free!

Is there any way to make non-registered users not even be able to read the boards? (you know, like on imdb, for instance)...wouldn't that mean that posts wouldn't turn up in google searches? (Thus, less spam) Sorry, I'm a wee bit paranoid, 'cause it's more than a trifle disturbing to find myself (my real name, that is, or even my nom de plume) turning up in the most odd/scary places on the internet, from bots gathering info from legit sites. On the other hand, I suppose that would mean traffic (and thus new members) would be greatly reduced, which is a Bad Thing. But might that be solved with a splash page introducing the site, so then Bad People/Bots wouldn't be able to gather info on who the members are and what they're posting?

OK: Here is what We Can Do. 1. disable PM function until a certain # of posts have been reached...?# is that? 2. Close the gates. Meaning, no one can read unless they're a Member. 3. Close specific forums until a certain # of posts have been reached...?# is that? How much, if any, of this do we go with? As it is, I am pretty much online for most of the day. I see what happens, I can keep an eye out, etc...Pretty soon, I'll be taking on a full time job outside the home, and my time may be limited by that. So I will be looking for Volunteers to Moderate. My suggestion for Mods is Rotating Shifts, what say you all? Any volunteers??
