| I've been telling you about this great radio show off and on through several incarnations of retro boards, but now I can share it with you all. http://www.jazzandblues.org/programming/listen/ The Swingin' Years is on from 6 to 9 am (Pacific) Saturdays and Sundays, so no matter where you are I'm sure you can hear it. This is the best broadcast of swing and big band music there is, since he uses all his own collection of thousands of 78s, and they sound SHARP. He also counts down the top ten for this week in whatever year, reads letters from people who have memories of going to various dance palaces, or meeting the stars, or learning to dance at the USO. Trivia and recordings of bandleaders and singers talking about their heydays, electronic transcriptions of broadcasts over the radio from various hotels and concert halls, he's got a good 50-year supply of all this stuff, and it's all HIS. The show has been on one radio station or another for over 50 years. You should really listen to it if you haven't heard of it before. It's fascinating. He plays so many things I've never heard of before, and I've been listening for years. The show broadcasts Saturday and Sunday mornings, and also Sunday nights from 8 to midnight, but that's on another station. I'll post that link here tonight. I hope you all become as addicted to it as I am. | |

| I've done some preliminary checking, but just wondering if anyone knows if they do a podcast of this? I've got to do some time shifting and a podcast would be great.....thanks in advance.... | |

| http://www.kcsn.org/listen.htm Here's the link for the show that runs Sunday nights from 8 to midnight Pacific time. None of these are repeats of the others - all three are different programs every week. And no, there's no podcast yet. I've begged. You can beg too, I'm sure it'll help. | |

Thanks, that was a great show. I'm a big fan already of KCSN's "Red Hot" show (R&B, rockabilly) on Sunday afternoons, and a few years, there was another gentleman who played great old 78's on KCSN but he sadly had to abandon his show due to health problems.

| Hmmm...I remember another show that came on late at night. It was called "Don't Wake Me Up, Let Me Dream", and it was full of great 20s and 30s music, including some songs from early talkies - EARLY we're talking those limbo years where Winnie Lightner and Nacy Carroll were stars - and heaps of Paul Whiteman and Fletcher Henderson. I've tried to look it up to see who reated it and if it's still on somewhere, but all tha comes up are recording details for the original 20s song, nothing about the radio program from the 90s. | |

If you've been following this show, it's gone from KCSN due to their policy of eliminating syndicated shows because of budget reasons. You can still catch it over on one of their sister stations, KKJZThis is also a good place to plug one of my favorite stations, Radio in the Delaware Valley (WRDV) in Hatboro, PA which is loaded with swing, vintage R&B, classic Country, and other roots music, with top-notch volunteer DJs that know their stuff. I learned about right in here (well, Port Halcyon) a few years ago and am a very loyal listener from 1700 miles away.

| Yay for WRDV! I'm just outside of their broadcast area, but whenever I get a few miles down the line it's all I listen too. Moonmoth, you may have caught some of the Community Bulletin Board announcements I send in for the Delaware Valley Historical Aircraft Assoc. They've always been great about airing them since our deomgraphic is very similar (senior citizens & veterans). | |
