Scholar, author, and very opinionated lady.

Her Lord Peter Wimsey books came about because she thought it might be a good way to pay the rent, but they became something special.

I have also read some of Miss Sayer's plays, essays, and letters, and the breadth of her intelligence and education is humbling.

She also translated The Divine Comedy (though she died before she could complete Il Paradiso, a friend finished the work). Her introduction alone is worth the purchase price.

I really love the Peter Wimsey books. While I haven't read as many as I'd like, they're quite enjoyable.

I'm such a Christie fan that it's always been hard for me to give anyone else a go, but she's a good one.

I like both Christie & Sayers, but they each provide a very different read.

When I'm reading Christie I feel more like an outsider looking in, but in Sayers I feel more like a guest. Strange comparison, perhaps?

Sayers wrote in much greater depth and for a smaller audience. She was quite a snob and didn't particularly care who knew it. Smile

Her play "Love, All" is quite different from her books. It's a real nod to Noel Coward, and it is very funny, and very feminist...which, surprisingly, Miss Sayers herself was not, particularly.
