| Leave it to you!
I am also loving the Besame Red Hot Red right now.
MAC's Red Essence is a good every day sort of casual red. Good for my pink skin, anyway...

| Check the Besame website.
They aint' cheap, but the Last and Last and Last. And they do a nice stain, and go on smooth...they have a full range of vintage reds. And you can get a sample for a dollar or two.

| Still using Russian Red by MAC and Brick O La which looks like faded muted brick (much prettier than it sounds) and works when I want my make up to be more subtle. | |

| Chanel's Red No 5 was a true red. I'm not sure if they still make it. Here's the Besame site; Besame I LOVE the look of their lipstick tubes! MAC does one called "Ruby Woo" (love the name!) that might suit too. | |

| Besame looks dangerous! I want the pack of 5 in the red family! (Though not for a while, the money I've spent lately in antiques stores means I'll have to hold off! ) | |

| That Besame stuff is really quality. I've ordered a LOT of it. The sample lipsticks last for, ahem, longer than they probably intend. I should be ashamed... | |

| I tried some of the Besame colors. I need to try them again as I am less afraid of red now. I have very yellow undertones in my skin which makes finding a suitable red very hard. | |

| I can't wear any red lipstick -- and believe me, I've tried many -- burgundy or pinky-brown shade are the only things which suit -- as for an authetic vintage and classic true red shade, there's Revlon's Fire and Ice (also made in matching nail polish), which was introduced in 1952, and has been a best-seller ever since. PS: Shouldn't this thread be moved to the makeup section? I can do that if everyone wants to. | |

| I love Mac's Ruby Woo. I think I may try the Russian Red also or I may get a darker more 20's/30's red, which would look better on me anyway. | |

| I am pale with yellow undertones and black hair. I've been wearing Christian Dior, Mysore Red from the same tube for years! I can't believe it's lasted so long as I wear red lips every night out on the town. I do believe they have revamped the Dior makeup line so I don't think it's around any more, which is a shame. It's a great shade. Thanks for the tips and the Besame link. I will be on the red lipstick prowl again soon! | |

| I love MAC 'Russian Red', it is a perfect red for me. In fact although I do have other reds I tend to only wear this one.
I would like to get a similar shade in a more glossy lipstick as the MAC 'Russian Red' is a matt shade and sometimes I'd like shine. Any suggestions?

| Miss R., are you wearing Russian Red in your avatar? Maybe if you'd like a little bit of shine you could use some MAC clear lipglass over the top of the red?
I've been out and about trying reds today and I've realised that the only way I'm going to be able to choose one will be to actually try them on my lips instead of my hand.:-) Although, I did get a good idea of how many different versions of red there is out there - pink ones, orangey ones and so on.
Here's a question: What does a company like MAC mean when they describe a particular colour as brick red? Are bricks orange-red? Pink-red? Blue-red? Or something else entirely?

| I can't remember but it's possible that it is my Boots No 7 which is very similar but a slightly lighter shade. I tend to wear this with lighter colour clothes.
Good idea about the lipgloss, I hadn't thought of that.
Brick red to me makes me think orange-red.

| For me brick red is a rusty red. Still red, and deep, but with a coppery brown undertone. | |

I tend to see brick reds as a red with a touch of brown in it.
