What's everyone working on? Or recently (or not-so-recently) finished? What's up next?

A few things I recently finished up:

1964 pullover by Pauline Denham (needs to be properly blocked, obviously -- it's looking a tad rumpled at the moment)...the collar opens in the back.

1936 diagonally ribbed scarf by Minerva (with monogramme)...um...yeah...had a wee bit of trouble removing all of the stray kitty fur.... I also made another, but altered the pattern a bit to be more girly, used a different yarn, and eliminated the monogramme for someone else.

1946 Baby Argyle Socks by Minerva

And the Vogue 1950 reversing cables jumper which, unfortunately didn't QUITE make it in time for Christmas.

Also, there were a few pairs of socks, and some gloves, which I haven't photographed. And, of course, as always, loads of things in progress at once, and a ton of "I think maybe I'll start this next" patterns. Then there's the sewing...

Very nice work. I can crochet basic scarves. I tried a hat once. It was a disaster. I would love to crochet a headband with snood.

Thank you! I have much more interesting and complex things in progress, but they had to be set aside in order to get things done for Christmas gifts.

I may have a few patterns for snoods. Would you like me to have a look?

Let's see...I'm making a mohair blend collar from a 1921 pattern book (brand escapes me at the moment).

It's a creamy beige. The first part was out of stash, mohair & nylon, but I ran out, so I'm finishing up with a bit of mohair & silk half a shade lighter.

Instead of the crochet edging, I K f&b and am now doing a picot cast off. I'm going to do a bit of embroidery at the color change area...if I'd been thinking ahead, an eyelet row would have been perfect, then I could thread a ribbon through...oh, well!

We're going to the Ahwanee in March! http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations_TheAhwahnee.aspx

I am also at the start of a skating scarf & stocking cap set, but the garter stitch colorwork Mad is killing me! I'll probably turn those parts into stockinette! Oh, this pattern is also 1921.

I have several nifty books from the teens-20s, as part of my Minerva collection. One has then up-and-coming young actresses (Billie Burke made the cover, and a couple of pages inside) modeling some items...I've been meaning to post them on my blog (which contains a bedjacket from that particular book), as an item of interest -- I don't suppose many would recognize most of the girls, though, except for BB, and at that, only as Glinda from The Wizard of Oz), I suspect -- most had short-lived careers, or went back to the stage, instead of sticking to the silents, much less making it to the talkies. Still, they're fun.

Have you noticed that garter stitch seems to have been very popular in these teens and '20s books? Mohair or angora trim, too. And that fillet crochet, which scares me a little....I think it would even if I were more proficient in crochet.

Garter stitch was hugely popular. As for fillet crochet *shudder*; I don't even like doing simple crochet.

Have you checked out ava rose for a huge selection of reproduced vintage pattern books? It is to die for.

I have seen her stuff...but I guess I'm pretty snobby; I'm a firm believer in the original editions, not repros, especially as I'm collecting entire series -- I stick to three: Minerva, before they merged with Columbia, Vogue, and Pauline Denham. Also, originals in good condition can also be obtained on ebay quite often for what she charges, so...well...you know. I'm a stickler. Wink

You'd love the ensemble I'm currently piecing together (1934, I think, by Minerva)...I did it in a vintage medium-green heather lightweight sports-weight yarn. Proving to be a bit tricky, though...it's one of those things which doesn't appear to be THAT difficult, but is about a million pieces, and everything has to be absolutely precise, or everything else gets thrown out of whack. It's going to be swell when (of if, I should say) I get it all just right.

You really can't tell in the photo, but there's some nice detailing on the sleeves -- three centered stripes extending from the shoulder points of the yoke (one long in the centre, flanked by two shorter ones) in a stitch creating a sort of herringbone look.

I don't particularly care if they are the originals; it's access to the patterns that I want, but I know what you mean.

Here's an outfit I made the first year I was knitting. It's a Minerva pattern:

The hat is my own design. Admitedly, I-cord is out of period, but it gave me the look I wanted.

Here are some more:

I made this tie from a NZ needlecraft magazine of the 50s, courtesy of a pen pal there. Lot of mistakes in the pattern, decreasing is off in the back, but I wear it.

This is from a 1941 Bucilla pattern booklet. I added the stripes. No pic of the finished vest (also pattern errors...this time in needle size for the neck ribbing).

These are the first socks I ever made. Hunting socks, I think Bucilla, 1945.

This is Spinnerin, 1963. I've since made another in chartreuse.

No, it's a Jiffy knit.

I changed the stripe pattern from full to partial.

And it's a 1934 edition; the first one I ever owned. A friend found it at a garage sale & gave it to me.

Wish I had more time. I would really like to make some finer gauge items, particularly a sweater from my stash of vintage yarns.

Perhaps one day I'll make one of the evening gowns.

I am just learning how to knit and crochet, which I am very excited about. I have a crochet book from the 40's that was my Grandmother's. The patterns in it are so beautiful. I can't wait to get started on a project! So many things I want to make.
You ladies are an inspiration!

Back on track with the 1921 scarf. I've decided to do the colorwork sections in stockinette, and they're looking quite good.

I really, really hope I'll finish this (and the matching hat) before our trip to Yosemite.

The collar is nearly done; I just need to fit it to the neckline of the tunic it was made for. The belt is done, too. Once I've got it all together I'll post photos.

Right now, I'm off the Baby Projects.

Anthropologie had a headband of 3 knitted strips braided together that Madison was dying for--$20/each.

Nope. I can knit about a hundred of those out of stash scraps of a better quality. Rolling Eyes

So I'm doing some of those for her--super-quick and easy. C/O 10 stitches and garter stitch for about 8 inches. Braid together, tack ends, and sew grosgrain ribbon ties.

Voila!

I've been doing well on my 20s scarf. Took a photo today; I hope to upload & post it soon.

Per usual, I have loads of things underway (not to mention all the, "oooh, I think I'll start such-and-such!") But now that xmas/baby stuff is out the way, I'm back on track with my own things...right now i'm concentrating in finishing up this, in a light brown wool sports-weight yarn. It's from 1934. I also found the PERFECT vintage bakelite buttons -- hooray! (the skirt and beret are part of the ensemble and will match the cardigan.)

PS: the cables extend across the back of the cardigan -- also, it's a bit difficult to see, but the trim and collar are moss stitch, and the cables are seperated by garter stitch and a rib of moss stitch...I love it!

Very nice!

When I'm done with my hat & scarf set I'll be choosing a few fine gauge projects.

This year I want to do a shawl, a dress or two-piece outfit, and at least one pullover.

The knitting is done on the scarf...whew!

I cast on for the hat last night, and this evening I'm going for fabric to make a lining for the scarf.

Next thing will be a really warm shawl. I found some Berocco Alpaca with a Twist in a coppery rust color.

The scarf was washed and blocked last night (it's almost dry) and I bought cream colored flannel to line it, and emerald green velvet ribbon for edging (same color as the tree motifs).

The hat is coming along slowly. I'll be knitting up a storm over the weekend.

The hat is completely finished! I probably won't post photos until after we come back from Yosemite, I'd like to pose it in situ. Very Happy

I have started basting the lining onto the scarf; it's not easy to do, because we have to lock the kittens away so they don't "help" (one has a wool fetish, which makes it even worse).

That's half done. Tonight I hope to baste the other half, and press (crease) the ribbon I'm using for edging.

The rest of it I can do in bits and pieces, but it needs to be finished ASAP. We leave for CA on Saturday

Here's some partial proof:

https://2img.net/h/i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/lindydiva/000_0939.jpg

The scarf is finished now (this is the 1/3 point) but I don't have any pictures of the finished products (there's a matching hat).

https://2img.net/h/i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/lindydiva/000_0940.jpg

This is inspired by a collar pattern from the same 1921 Bucilla Bear Brand booklet, but I made a lot of changes. It's mohair blends, one with nylon, one with silk. The buttons are vintage (Deco). I got them at Reading a few years ago. The embroidery is black angora.

I made a belt to go with it, with a black Bakelite buckle.

Here's the start of the shawl I finished on Tuesday:

https://2img.net/h/i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/lindydiva/000_0953.jpg

At the moment, I'm working on two pairs of socks. "Red Sox" anklets for me (I'm going to a Stitch & Pitch on May 10th) and a crazy pair of red & yellow colorway socks for my husband, with red heels and toes (HE likes them Laughing .)
