Thank you for allowing me to join. I saw the banner on The Sophisticate's Diary MySpace page, in case you we're wonder how I found your charming group.

I'm Miss Mina, a burlesque dancer from Boston. My troupe focuses on what we call "The Golden Age of Burlesque that never really existed", being sort of a fantasy of the 1920-1950's.

Hello everyone, I joined a few weeks ago but just found time to start poking around tonight! I love the food posts and will have to put up some pages from my vintage cookbooks. Funny enough, I found this community while doing a google search about cake mascara. I'm going to have to try that stuff, its sounds right up my alley.

Hello, nice to 'see' everyone.
I used to post on Port Halcyon now and then. It's great to see so many familiar names! I hope everyone is doing well?

Hello,

I did wonder if you were the 'dark horse' who is mysteriously lurking in the shadows, alongside Kitty Staples another UK based retrophile.

Who are you? Expose yourselves!

I'm glad to see everyone has found a new home in these post-Halcyon times. Those of you who were around back in the Atomic Cafe days might remember me. Since I moved to Coeur d'Alene and had to suffer with dial-up Internet service, I've only checked in about once a year.

Swingin' Sarah and I are actually enjoying more retro goodness in our lives than we have in quite a while. Nearby Spokane, Washington has two excellent vintage jazz bands, 6' Swing and The Hot Club of Spokane, so we're able to get out regularly. The leader of Hot Club also organized an amazing Swing & Blues Festival last year and plans to do another this fall. It really is the festival that I always dreamed of attending, but I'm lucky enough to have it nearby. I'll definitely post more details about this year's lineup soon.

Again, I'm really happy to see everyone is still around and I'll be cruising through the topics to see what is going on!

I remember you, Jim. (though you probably don't know me!) I was in Idaho back in 1994, around Lewiston, where the paper mill is! Anyway, glad you're at least checking in.

Philadelphia was excellent! Sarah and I just couldn't get enough of the historical sights. No matter what the day's focus, we managed to walk down by Independence Hall every day.

We were able to catch up with Dante and join him for cheesesteaks at Sonny's. He showed us the poor charred remains of the 5 Spot and a few other points of interest.

Like most vacations, we wished we had more time. After visiting, I think every American should visit Philadelphia and Independence Hall at least once. It is so amazingly powerful to stand in the room where our government came to be.

Hi- looks like this is where I ought to say hello. Smile I'm new here. I asked at a community on LJ for vintage style/living forums other than FL and was directed to a couple, including this one. I used to lurk here and there on retro forums, but not for ages
and not much, so most people won't know me but I am glad to see familiar names that make me think this place will be a nice place to be.

Hello! Miss Roulette mentioned this place to me a good few months ago when it was all new, and I registered then; however, due to exams, forgetfulness and general ill manners, I haven't participated or, indeed, introduced myself since then! So please forgive me, and hello again to you all Smile
