| Does nowhere do solid wood furniture anymore?!
All we want are a pair of 600mm wide, 2mtr tall, solid wood (not pine) bookselves but can we find anything? No chance. Habitat advertise the perfect shelves in 'natural oak' so we go to the shop where, on inspection, they turn out to be chipboard! For £250 each!
I will never begrudge paying high prices for vintage furniture again.

| The only other alternative would be making them...is that an option? | |

| Do you have listings for unfinished furniture? The paint-it-yourself guys usually deal in the real thing. | |

A few years ago, maybe; but not now I have a flat with no shed, tools or garden.

Cheers for that. Searching Google for 'unfinished furniture' has thrown up some possible sources.

Yes; quite a few places like that in the States (my pine cupboard is one I bought 20 years ago). Is there anything like that in the UK? Sometimes they say "unfinished", sometimes "naked" .

| Not that I know of. We just have very bad furniture shops. Habitat and Heals both do excellent looking stuff, much of it very mid-century looking, but it all seems to be veneered chipbard. We have an abundance of pine shops but I can't stand the stuff. So if anyone spies any 600mm x 2000mm(ish) very plain, quite deep, oak, teak, beech or walnut bookshelves, let me know! No veneers! | |

| Another option might be to find a carpenter who would knock up what you want, if the price could be negotiated. | |

| We've put the shelves on hold until we recover from having the sofa re-upholstered.
You'd think that the plainest of plain bookcases would be an easy thing to find.

| No; the simpler or more elegant an item, the more difficult it is to find! | |
