I thought I'd start a category for all of you multi-skilled sophisticates to show us your money-making (or potentially money-making) sidelines, be they crafty, musical, artistic or performance related.

Kind of an 'in-house' spam section to promote yourself or your wares to us and the world at large.

Feel free to post stuff you've previously put in a different thread.

OK, as you are all feeling a bit shy and modest I shall start.
My sideline is ProletKult Graphik (see link in my signature). It's a brand new baby and a handful of people actually pay me to do web graphics and /or flyers for them.

Just in case anyone is interested where that mouthful of a name came from, here's the wiki entry:

Quote :
Proletkult is an portmanteau of "proletarskaya kultura" (пролетарская культура), Russian for "proletarian culture". It was a movement active in the Soviet Union in 1917/1925 to provide the foundations for a truly proletarian art devoid of bourgeois influence. Its main theoretician was Alexander Bogdanov (18731928) who saw the proletkult as a third part of a trinity of revolutionary socialism. Whereas the unions would attend to the proletariat's economic interests and the communist party, their political interests, the Proletkult would look after their cultural and spiritual life.

I'll dip my toe in the water...

I write grants for arts & cultural organizations. I have a background in music and museums and over the years I've learned what and how to write to get projects funded. Whether by governments, private entities or corporations, if your non-profit has a goal, I can help you get it funded. Usually, I ask for a 10% commission, but if the award amount is over $50K, things are negotiable. I've never written a grant that hasn't been successful; maybe not 100% funded, but usually at least half.

It's a good job to have when you have young kids at home- you can pretty much do everything online.

That is quite an impressive skill. Even reading some of the guidelines when applying for funding is confusing, let alone filling the forms in and being successful.

My sideline is in dressmaking. I've been making and selling French knickers (tap pants) for about 18 months and am just about to add a new line on my website. I'll let you all know in a week or two when the website is all up to date.

I'd like to get to a point when it's not a sideline though!

I work from home designing virtual vintage clothing and hair for Second Life Avatars. Here are a couple of my display ads that I have up in my inworld shop.

I make my own aromatherapy blends under the name Bloomin' Lovely Aromatherapy. Popular blends are the Breast Treat, Hand Treat, Eyelift and the BL Body Blend. Sizes vary, depending on the blend, from 10 ml to 50 ml.

I'm happy to do a consultation for a customised blend or to answer any questions.

It's taken me a little bit longer than I thought (mainly due to scheduling the photoshoot) but my website is finally up and running again with the new Skirt-o-Matic feature. Sophistikitten.

I'm very excited about it!

How fab!
You're all so talented!

What I do as a side is Write. I write copy for web sites, brochures, any sort of collateral material or articles.

And what I am working toward is consulting for film, etc., on the authenticity of period decor/wardrobe/subject matter. A lot of films are being shot around here lately, some of them ultra-low budget, but it is a start!

I write the back page/pages for The Wrench Magazine.
I don't get paid but, then again, I can write what I like. Which is, invariably, uitter nonsense.

I like the site. Those French knickers are beautiful. They look very comfortable too. Not usually a term associated with modern lingerie. Must forward to His Nibs to see if he likes. How could he not? I'm envisioning a pair in my Christmas stocking. santa

Guess I'll throw my hat in the ring as well. While by trades, I'm a librarian, I also am dipping my toes into the freelance writers market. This year, I've started my history blog, looking to do a newsletter and have been published a couple of times, with hopefully some more work in the pipeline. If you need research (or writing) look me up!

Not a money maker, unless you're doing craft fairs, but I made a few of these for an ornament exchange:

You've all seen my fancy logo, so now I'm working on the site to match!

I've stumbled into my own "media" type business: web/print/mail/press. I am a full-service for web site design/update/maintenance, print collateral, direct mail and publicity.

At this writing, I have about 6 projects going for 4 clients. I have a 6-month plan for leaving the salon job to do this full time. So far, I'm on track!

Not a paid gig, but I recently started a style blog geared toward the Chicago-dwelling guy interested in classic fashion/style. I also am trying to cover the burlesque scene in the city. Since a lot of guys are into suits only for business, I started with a series on getting the beginner into an interview suit and then built up to his first 4-5 suits and shirts.

I run Pin-Up Parade, so not only do I field photos of lovely ladies (and a few chaps), I have a house filled with cardboard boxes of clothes that don't fit me.
