I finally got a chance to look at the pictures- it's really cute with loads of potential. But that bath is something else! Laughing I think I'd get dizzy taking a shower in there. I bet you can't wait until that's out.

Keep us updated- we want plenty of photos! Very Happy

So far...I've cleared out the front, cut down 5 trees, pulled out the stumps, cut up the one my husband cut down...

The brass knocker & mail slot are off the door and almost all polished. I need to lacquer them.

Today I took all the hardware off of the built-in cabinet. I'll be cleaning & polishing that before putting it back.

The kitchen demo is done; the ugly bath is gone, and it's divided for the office/powder room. The guys the contractor brought in are good.

My husband has been working on the electrical and plumbing. He's been putting up the fixtures we've found.

Today we found a wonderful repro for over the sink in the full bath. I took it apart, repaired, cleaned, and polished it. Jimmy will put it up tomorrow. It's great, all chrome and glass rods and a glass shade.

I'll be starting on the cabinets soon; one is at the house, and we'll be moving the other two tomorrow.

I'll be taking pictures tomorrow, if I remember the camera! :-)

Here's a link to a new album.

I didn't get photos of all the work, but here's a sampling:

Looking good! It's a lot of work, isn't it? When you want every little detail to be perfect, you can spend hours just polishing the hardware. But eventually it'll all be done and every time you look at it you'll be glad you put all that effort into it!

Is there anything you're looking for now that we could keep an eye out for? I know I go to lots of yard sales & antique malls this time of year; if there's anything you want me to look for I'd love to help!

Right now we're in pretty good shape.

I even found this place:

http://www.vandykes.com/

I ordered my ruby glass knobs and pulls for the kitchen there, and also got some backplates for the downstairs doors. We found some decent vintage knobs, some matching, but it's harder to find the backplates.

I already told my sister that I want gift certificates from there for Christmas this year, instead of books!

Oh, and we used the VERY generous gift card from Home Depot yesterday. I don't love that place, but the officers at my company got together and gave us the gift card. We got a good pedestal sink, hardware for both bathrooms, a medicine cabinet, a tilt mirror, and a few odds and ends...and we still have a little more than $100.00 left! (That will go to plumbing supplies or concrete & such, so I can patch the front stairs and back, probably.)

When we're settled in I'll have a better idea of what else we need. Right now I'm getting rid of things left and right. Smile As big as it is, I'm going to have less cupboard space and smaller closets.

Those glass knobs are gorgeous! I'm trying to picture what Depression Pink and Green look like!

There are photos of all the colors on the website.

It was hard to choose!

And both of my orders have shipped. I can't wait till my new toys come in.

Last night I spent 3 hours sanding, patching, and priming the cabinets for the kitchen.

It's slow going, as I'm using oil based primer and paint. I want a durable finish for these cabinets.

Oh, when they ripped up the kichen floor last weekend we found ALL of the layers!

Most recent: badly laid ceramic tile (beige)

70s: ugly yellow & brown linoleum

50s: ugly speckled vinyl tile

30s: hardwood! But it's so badly damaged we'd have to put in new anyway.

We're going with black and white tile, laid in a checkerboard pattern.

Here's something I learned- don't use white grout! We have a medium gray grout on our B&W floor and it looks great. I can't tell you how many times I've spilled coffee or red sauce or something else that would have really been tough to clean on white grout, even with a sealer over top. We do have white grout in our bathroom and I have to get in there with a toothbrush and bleach every few weeks to keep it looking good- not fun.

I don't think our tiles will require grout. We're getting commercial grade flooring. The tiles butt up against each other.

Oh, I forgot: we found a hand made woolen braided rug that I'll be using for the kitchen. The predominant color is red.

Another busy w/e.

I spent a.m. and early afternoon priming the cabinets. Took a break for lunch, painted the Deco cabinet.

Then I went out to the front garden again. Jimmy cut down the remaining trees and I cut them up. We got some firewood out of them. I started digging up the old cedar mulch and bagging it.

While I was painting, Jimmy & a guy who works with him went & got our Deco armchairs (my bosses loaned us a van).

Yesterday Jimmy took out the aluminum and put in columns (it's almost done) and I dug out both tree stumps and bagged more mulch. I won't finish with the mulch till next weekend. There's a LOT of it.

And we picked out flooring.

My kitchen will have faintly speckled tile. The black has a bit of gray in it, and the white streaks of red.

This week I'd like to strip the door and prime it; I still need to get the paint. But first I need to get the paint for the shutters...we'll have to match the door paint to that.

Where does the time go???

Well, we had to press "pause" on the house for now, except for my cabinets. I still need to finish the doors, but the main pieces are done. I also need to get some more hinges, and install all of the hardware.

I have been P-A-C-K-I-N-G up a storm. And schlepping most of it over there myself. My husband has a cold, you see. Rolling Eyes

The big move is on Saturday (and Sunday). And my bosses have again told us we can use a van. They're also giving me a long weekend! Very good, decent folks. I'm lucky to be here.

Still need to finish packing up my clothes (saving out outfits for the rest of the week), go throgh my outerwear & hats, and do the last parts of the kitchen.

As my husband has not even begun on his wardrobe it should be interesting. Since I have done 95% of what's finished, though, he can do it all himself, and if it's at midnight on Sunday, that's his problem!! Twisted Evil

Haha- been there! Why does the world have to stop for a man with a cold? Most of the time, I barely notice when I get one; when you have two little ones to keep track of there is no such thing as taking a sick day!

My husband went to the house yesterday and saw the cabinet that's being built for my sink.

He said it's fantastic. The carpenter has even rounded off the edges of the shelves, matching the Art Deco cabinet I have!

...as far a Cold News goes....g'rrrr. Well, I have it now. But it'll have to wait its turn. There's still plenty of work to do.

Yesterday I packed up or got rid of everything in the Deco wardrobe, finished packing the books, packed about half of the 78s, all of my scripts, the LPs, and all of my (music) scores.

Today it's back to the house to work on the cabinets and to see what I need to do to "fix" the awful bathtub.

Well, we're in.

I have a functional kitchen, and the dining room rug & furniture are in place.

The rest of the place is death by packing box. But we'll get there.

As soon as I find the camera I'll post some pictures.

Wonderful news! "Death by packing box"....I must remember that one. My late mother, the Queen of Moves (married to an Air Force firefighter who was transferred every three years), said you only need two things; to eat and sleep. The rest will get sorted out in good time. Very Happy

That staircase is wonderful! Your so lucky. The kitchen floor looks great too. It looks like the rooms are nice and big as well.
