I ran across this while looking for something else (which I didn't find but hey....). This sounds delicious and I'm looking forward to making it.

Wash Day Pudding

Bottom Layer

2 Cups Brown Sugar
1 Cup Water
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Melt and blend in pot on low temperature. “Do Not Boil”. Once melted pour into (lightly greased) 9x9 baking dish.

Preheat oven to 375 F

Cake

¼ Cup Butter
½ Cup White Sugar

Cream butter & sugar add 1 Egg. Beat until well mixed. Combine and sift all dry ingredients in another bowl.

1 ½ Cups White Flour
3-4 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1 Pinch of Salt

Add to butter mixture alternating between dry ingredients and 1 cup of milk. Drop batter by the spoonfuls (like a dumpling) into syrup mixture. Don’t worry if there are spaces, when the cake cooks it will spread out. Bake at 375F -190C for 45-60 minutes till golden brown.
