| "The Great Bridge: The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge" by David McCullough (1972).
A great book (I've read it before) that is not only a fascinating read about the bridge itself but also tells a good tale about the blatant corruption (Boss Tweed) in New York City at the time. |

| After Mina's mention I'm now reading 'Hit List' by Lawrence Block. Good so far! _________________ Sophistikitten, MySpace |

| | I just finished The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde. Wonderfully strange and very, very British. Unfortunately, I'm about to start my summer class about teaching writing. I think I'll be reading nothing but journal articles and textbooks for the next month. |

| Oh dear Jumpin' Jim, it appears The Big Over Easy is on it's way to me now, along with the first Thursday Next novel. Sounds right up my street! _________________ Sophistikitten, MySpace |

| The Big Over Easy was fabulous. It makes Reading sound just as seedy as Philip Marlowe's Los Angeles, but with all manner of talking animals and food items wandering around.
Sarah has read all of the Thursday Next novels and loves them. Jack Spratt, the protagonist of the Nursery Crimes series evidently makes a few appearances in the Thursday Next Series. |

| I'm really looking forward to reading them. Anything that can make Reading sound like Marlowe's LA must be good. _________________ Sophistikitten, MySpace |

| Looks like I'll be reading lots of issue of New Old House and 30s house & garden magazines, too. *fingers crossed* Oh, and Trojan Gold by Elizabeth Peters (the new Vicky Bliss is due out next month). _________________ "To say that New York came up to its advance billing would be the baldest of understatements. | Well I finished 'Hit List' which was very good and highly recommended.
I then went straight for 'The Big Over Easy' which was very funny and I shall be reading the others in the series.
I think I'll be starting on 'White Mischief' which is about a murder amongst the colonialists in Kenya in 1941. I was given the book as a prize last night. _________________ Sophistikitten, MySpace |

| Can I ask what the prize was for, Miss R? Mr Soul, is "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" much of a read? I always had the impression that it was the socialist equivalent of '"Atlas Shrugged" - ie a book that's tended to be read more for the politics than the content. But I'm prepared to stand corrected. |
