Don't hold your breath or anything, but it looks like we might be buying a house.

Incredibly, my husband found one in the area that's almost reasonable (here, a doghouse would go for $200,000 +).

It's even within walking distance of our current apartment. And it was built in 1930.

However (you knew there'd be at least one, right?)....it's a foreclosure. It's bank owned, and the process can be slippery. The last owner decided to get back at the bank by ripping out the entire kitchen. ...

Vintage even in places where the sun doesn't shine!

In another post, I mentioned that I'm even trying to be vintage on the inside of my kitchen cabinets. Does anyone else take things to this level or am I just overly obsessed with this?

I happen to have found some useful vintage product packaging, so I just replaced the new with the old. The saltine tin is really much better at keeping those individual cracker sleeves fresh than the modern cardboard package, and it's more fun to look at. The mason jars hold all the loose baking ...

I posted some shots of the tree in another thread, but here are a more images of interior and exterior decorations... the photos don't do them justice. I am really not very good with the digital camera (I 've dug out the old 35mm SLR cameras, but need to find some film), and I was shooting in low light, mostly. Also - some of the blinking lights appear as "out" - so please make allowances. I'd love to see some of y'all's as well... Anyway - here ya go!

Does nowhere do solid wood furniture anymore?!

All we want are a pair of 600mm wide, 2mtr tall, solid wood (not pine) bookselves but can we find anything? No chance. Habitat advertise the perfect shelves in 'natural oak' so we go to the shop where, on inspection, they turn out to be chipboard! For £250 each!

I will never begrudge paying high prices for vintage furniture again.

Well, we bit the bullet and paid a small fortune to have our 1950s sofabed and chair re-upholstered.

It was well worth it as the chap did a fantastic job restoring it to its former glory.

We finally finished our little girl's room. This used to be our guest room--the furniture is still the same, but with the addition of the crib. The theme is "vintage rose", with a dusty rose color on the walls (definitely not baby pink, even though it appears that way) and pink accents on the lamps and linens. The bedroom suite (full size bed, nightstand, highboy, vanity & bench) is a gorgeous burled mahogany with yellow Bakelite pulls. It belonged to an elderly relative who bought ...
